Core Inspection

Start with the right foundation

Every build starts with a complete teardown and core inspection. We strip the engine to bare components and check the block, crankshaft, rods, pistons, cylinder heads, and hardware for wear patterns, damage, cracks, previous machine work, and signs of failure. This inspection tells us what can be reconditioned, what needs machining, and what gets replaced.

LGH Valvetrain

We use new exhaust valves and inspect the pushrods, rockers, lifters, springs, retainers, locks, valve seals, and related hardware before and during assembly. Pushrod condition, valve lash, spring setup, and overall valvetrain geometry are all checked to help prevent common issues like poor valve control, noise, misfire concerns, or premature component wear. For higher-demand builds, HD valve springs, upgraded pushrods, and camshaft upgrades are available to further improve valvetrain stability.

Quality Control

Engine Blueprinting

Every critical component is measured, verified, and documented to ensure the entire rotating assembly and long block are built to exact tolerances. We measure crankshaft journals, bearing clearances, connecting rods, pistons, ring gaps, cylinder bores, and deck surfaces, as well as valvetrain geometry and final assembly checks. This process helps ensure consistency, proper fitment, improved reliability, and a higher level of quality in every PML engine.

LGH Rotating Assembly

We install new pistons, rings, bearings, and rod bolts, with crankshaft journals, bearing clearances, rod sizing, piston fitment, and ring gaps all measured before final assembly. The crankshaft is digitally spin balanced on our CWT Multi-Bal 550 to precise tolerances, helping reduce vibration and improve overall engine smoothness. For added reliability, the crankshaft and camshaft are square keyed to strengthen timing gear retention and help address a known Duramax weak point under load.

Machining

LGH Cylinder Heads

Our LGH cylinder heads are remanufactured, machined, and assembled in-house so we can control the full process from start to finish. Each head is inspected before machining, with attention paid to deck surface finish, valve seat condition, guide wear, and overall casting quality. From there, the heads are resurfaced, machined as needed, assembled, and pressure tested to ensure strong sealing, consistent valve operation, and a reliable finished long block.

LGH Block

Our blocks are machined and honed in-house on our Rottler F69A and H85AX machines. Each block is inspected, machined, and finished with attention to deck surfaces, cylinder bore condition, mainline alignment, and final hone finish. The cylinders are precision-honed for proper piston and ring fitment, helping support ring seal, oil control, and long-term durability in the finished build.
